TCU dismisses transfer safety Fields over violation of team rules

TCU safety Jacob Fields, a standout transfer from Louisiana Tech, has been dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules, a team spokesman confirmed to ESPN.

"Due to a violation of team rules, Jacob Fields has been removed from our roster and will not be a member of our team football team moving forward," the spokesman said Tuesday in a statement.

Fields was Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 at Louisiana Tech after starting 12 games at safety and becoming the first defensive back to lead the Bulldogs in tackles (92) since 2014. He had three interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, as well as 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups.

Fields had been set to replace standout safety Bud Clark, an NFL second-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks. TCU will turn to Jamel Johnson, who led the team with five interceptions last season, and others at safety.

Fields, a native of Melissa, Texas, made 21 career starts for Louisiana Tech.

The Horned Frogs open their season Aug. 29 against North Carolina in Dublin.
