José Mourinho has said that he did speak to Vinícius Juníor about remaining at Real Madrid but insisted he did not need to do much persuading as the Brazilian has 'fallen in love' with the Spanish giants.

Vinícius Jr. was linked with a surprise move to Arsenal this summer as he stalled over signing a new contract at the Bernabéu.

He then did sign on to remain in Madrid after Mourinho had rejoined the club.

The Portuguese was adamant that while he did speak to Vinícius Jr., he did not need to do too much persuading.

"Obviously I spoke to him, but Vinícius has fallen in love with Real Madrid," Mourinho told AS.

"The only thing I told him was: "Vini, where do you want to go? You've only been in Brazil and you only know Real Madrid.

"You only understand Real Madrid when you leave, when you leave, that's when you realise what Real Madrid is: don't leave. It's not worth it."

Mourinho also explained that he felt the way the squad was forming was a reason for the Brazilian's choice to stay put.

He added: "I think what he has felt in terms of the group's growth, the way we've been working and developing, has given him a very important feeling.

"Vinícius is another machine -- it's a pleasure to watch him work. We have a lot of quality."
