Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Canada striker Promise David on a season-long loan from Union St.-Gilloise

The deal announced Tuesday includes an obligation to make the move permanent if certain conditions are met, Brighton said. The Belgian club said it would receive a record transfer fee for David.

The 25-year-old joined Union in the summer of 2024 and scored 19 goals in his first season to help the club to its first league title in 90 years. Overall, David scored 41 goals in 82 appearances, with nine assists.

"Promise is someone we have been watching for some time, he is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals," Brighton's sporting director Mike Cave said.

"His experience at international level and in European competition will hopefully prove valuable this season.

"At 25, he's entering his prime playing years and we're excited to see him continue to develop in our environment."

David appeared in five of Canada's six games at this summer's World Cup and scored in the group-stage loss to Switzerland. He has four goals in 14 appearances for Canada after making his debut last year after switching his international allegiance from Nigeria.
