Hornets guard Coby White to sit preseason after calf strain

Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White suffered a left calf strain during training camp and will miss the remainder of preseason, the team announced Monday.

White, 26, signed a three-year, $74 million contract with Charlotte over the summer and is expected to play a large role this season after the LaMelo Ball trade left a void in the backcourt.

White joins second-year guard Kon Knueppel on the sideline for the remainder of preseason. Knueppel suffered a left hamstring strain earlier in training camp.

The Hornets acquired White from the Chicago Bulls in February and he went on to have a strong finish to the season with his new team. He was the hero in the team's play-in victory over the Miami Heat, scoring 19 points and hitting the turnaround 3 late in regulation to force overtime.

The Hornets' preseason begins Tuesday night while their regular season opens on the road in Brooklyn on October 21.
