Ghana pulled off an injury-time victory over Panama in their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring late to hand Carlos Queiroz's side a 1-0 win.

Thomas Christiansen's side were on top for much of the game and deserved at least a point, but Panama walked away without a point as they have lost all four games they have ever played at a World Cup.

Ghana had their first shot on goal in the 45th minute of the game as they endured a dreadful first half. However they were much improved in the second half, with Antoine Semenyo at the heart of everything good, and that was the case as he began the move that sealed the victory late on.

Panama also came close via Cristian Martínez and Ismael Díaz late on, but were unable to find the finishing touch.

With England defeating Croatia 4-2 in the other game in Group L, Ghana move to second in the table, while Panama are currently third. Ghana next face England on June 23rd, while Panama take on Croatia later that same day.
