Egypt were the better team for the bulk of the first half and deservedly took the lead through Ashour, who hit home from outside the box from a Mohamed Salah assist.

The African side had never won a World Cup match in their history after seven attempts but things were going very well come half time.

The second half saw a big chance fall to Ashour's feet but he snatched at it and Belgium began to get themselves back into the match.

Kevin De Bruyne had an effort hit the bar from a free kick but in open play, Belgium were struggling to break down a resolute Egypt defence.

Rudi Garcia made the decision to bring Romelu Lukaku onto the field and after 22 seconds, Belgium managed to equalise with the Napoli forward making the run into the six-yard box and forcing Ashour to poke it into his own net.

Lukaku then had the biggest chance in the remainder of the game, heading over from close range when he would have expected to score.

Egypt's wait for a first ever World Cup victory goes on but a point against Belgium is a hugely credible result.

Belgium meanwhile did well to get themselves back into the game and both sides will now look towards their next matches against Iran and New Zealand.
