News: 5 days agoDolphins coach Jeff Hafley suggested Friday that Bell (knee) might have a chance to play this preseason, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Spin: It doesn't seem likely, given that Bell remains on the Non-Football Injury list through the first week of August. He'll presumably ease into practice once he's activated, and there would still be some chance of opening the regular season on an injury list. Still, it's a good sign that Bell's head coach isn't ruling out the possibility of a preseason appearance. The rookie third-round pick should get playing time at some point this year, though perhaps not early on.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Bell was selected by the Dolphins in the third round of April's draft. The heaviest receiver in this rookie class at 222 pounds, Bell is a perimeter, possession target who increased his production in each of his four seasons at Louisville. That includes a 72-917-6 receiving line in 11 games last season, though he did tear his ACL in December. The injury could lead to a slow start to his NFL career, but considering he's joining a Miami offense devoid of playmakers, he also has a path to pacing the team in targets as a rookie. Bell could find his way to fantasy relevance if healthy and if Malik Willis plays well, but there are enough concerns that he's only worth a late flier.
