News: 6 days agoGeneral manager Will Dawkins said during Thursday's press conference that Davis (finger) is "very much a motivated player" and that he expects the veteran big man to bounce back in 2026-27.
Spin: Davis was limited to only 20 regular-season appearances with Dallas last season due to health issues, but Dawkins said the 10-time All-Star is currently in a "great frame of mind." Washington also views Davis as a starting-caliber center in a revamped frontcourt featuring Alex Sarr and Deandre Ayton. Davis and the Wizards reportedly postponed contract extension discussions earlier this offseason, but Dawkins declined to specifically address those talks Thursday.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Injuries limited Davis to only 20 games last season and only 29 total with the Mavericks since his midseason trade there in the 2024-25 season. Last season, Davis was traded again to the Wizards though he was never able to play. This season, Davis is expected to return healthy and settle in as the primary big man for the Wizards. He will play next to point guard Trae Young, who excels at running the pick-and-roll and setting up his big man with easy shots. Durability is always a concern for Davis, but if he can remain healthy he could be in for the most efficient scoring season of his career playing next to Young.
