The Indian men's hockey team will hope to qualify for the second round with a win over Pakistan at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen on Wednesday.
India started their campaign with a 3-1 win over Wales, but lost the next game against England 2-4, which makes their qualification to the second round and semifinals tricky.
Meanwhile, Pakistan drew their game against Wales 3-3 and before that they lost against 1-4.
While India have three points from two games, Pakistan have one. A win for either team today will ensure qualification to the next round along with England. India have the slight upper hand as a draw would be enough to qualify.
It's in the second round where India will have it tough against the Netherlands and either Argentina or New Zealand. It's here where England will carry forward their three points from their win against India.
Against England on Monday, India started well although it was their opponent who took the lead. England broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after a brilliant aerial caught the Indian defence off guard, Nicholas Bandurak came up with a clinical finish to make it 1-0.
India drew level two minutes into the second quarter. After winning a penalty corner, Harmanpreet stepped up and unleashed a rocket of a flick into the top-left corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance. India doubled their tally in the 25th minute after Hardik Singh worked the ball along the baseline to Abhishek, who sent a bouncing pass towards the far post. Dilpreet Singh was perfectly placed and needed only a simple touch to put India 2-1 ahead.
After the break, England upped the ante and found the equaliser in the 39th minute. Following a long slap-push from the right, Stuart Rushmere got a half-touch with his reverse stick inside the circle, sending the ball past Mohith HS to make it 2-2.
England then turned the game around. In the 43rd minute, another aerial ball allowed them to enter India's 23-metre area, with Rushmere again involved in the build-up. Henry Croft took a quick hit and beat Mohith to score his maiden World Cup goal and give England a 3-2 advantage.
England sealed the result in the 55th minute. After they conceded a penalty corner following a goalmouth melee, Bandurak stepped up and produced a superb low-flying flick to the left of goalkeeper Suraj Karkera, completing his brace and making it 4-2.
The match will start at 6:30 p.m. IST.
