Rassie Erasmus kept faith in Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu as his starting flyhalf for Saturday's Rugby's Greatest Rivalry (RGR) Test against New Zealand at Ellis Park despite a difficult return to action in a 17-10 win over Argentina two weeks ago.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu had been out for over two months with an ankle injury sustained while playing for the Stormers. His return against Argentina came in difficult kicking conditions and he was unable to dictate the tempo, but did some respectable work with ball in hand.
Erasmus nevertheless opted for Feinberg-Mngomezulu as his starting 10 against the All Blacks for the first of four Tests against New Zealand. He will be up against Ruben Love - the All Blacks' starting flyhalf.
Manie Libbok was named on the bench for the Springboks, with Handre Pollard out of the 23. Siya Kolisi - who attempted to make a recovery from injury in time for this test - also missed out, with Pieter-Steph du Toit leading the side in his absence and starting alongside Paul de Villiers at flank, with Jasper Wiese completing the back row.
Eben Etzebeth starts alongside Ruan Nortje at lock, with Ox Nche and Wilco Louw either side of Malcolm Marx in the front row.
Grant Williams gets the nod at scrumhalf and Kurt-Lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe start on the wings. Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel make up an experienced centre pairing with Damian Willemse at fullback.
Despite featuring in the build-up to the Tests, Beauden Barrett did not make the All Blacks' matchday 23. Following previous concerns over an ankle injury sustained in last Tuesday's against the Sharks, Damian McKenzie starts at fullback.
All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie sprung a surprise on the wing, with Josh Moorby - who has only two caps, both earned in this year's Nations Championship, and can also play at fullback - starting alongside Will Jordan.
Despite the absence of brothers Beauden and Scott, Jordie Barrett starts for the All Blacks at centre, alongside Quinn Tupaea.
Cam Roigard is Love's starting halfback partner, with Ardie Savea captaining the side at eighthman and making up the back row alongside Luke Jacobson and Tupou Vaa'i.
Fabian Holland and Josh Lord start at lock, while Rennie's front row features Ethan de Groot, Codie Taylor and Tyrel Lomax.
