Michigan lands 4-star WR Quentin Burrell from 2027 SC Next 300

Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham secured his first skill position pledge in the 2027 class Wednesday with a commitment from four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, No. 57 in the SC Next 300.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound pass catcher from Illinois' Mount Carmel High School is ESPN's No. 11 wide receiver prospect and No. 2 overall recruit from Illinois in the 2027 class. Burrell picked the Wolverines over Arizona State, Missouri and Notre Dame in a live commitment announcement with Rivals.com following a pair of trips to see the program earlier this spring.

After the Wolverines flipped No. 1 pocket passer Kamden Lopati from Illinois in April, Burrell arrives as an elite pass-catching talent to anchor the program's latest recruiting class, which has picked up seven commitments in the 2027 class since Whittingham took over in December following 21 seasons as head coach at Utah.

Burrell joins as the second-ranked of Michigan's five SC Next 300 pledges in the cycle. Along with Lopati and Burrell, the program has picked up commitments from four-star offensive tackles Sidney Rouleau (No. 123 overall) and Jakari Lipsey (No. 265) this spring. Defensive end Recarder Kitchen (No. 152), who committed to the Wolverines under former coach Sherrone Moore last November, remains Michigan's top-ranked defensive pledge in 2027.

Burrell plays alongside fellow SC Next 300 prospects Tavares Harrington (No. 102 overall) and Roman Igwebuike (No. 197) at Mount Carmel, where he'll enter his senior season later this year with 142 receptions, 2,396 receiving yards and a school-record 34 receiving touchdowns for his career. Burrell is also the younger brother of Kali Burrell, who graduated from Michigan this spring after appearing in 58 games with the school's women's soccer program from 2022 to 2025.

Harrington, ESPN's No. 13 cornerback in 2027, could soon join Burrell in the Wolverines' latest class. The 6-2, 170-pound defensive back is expected to announce his commitment from among Michigan, Alabama and Notre Dame on May 22.
