What is the Money in the Bank ladder match?
The Money in the Bank ladder match is a multiperson bout where the object is to climb a ladder and obtain a briefcase hanging above the ring. Inside the briefcase is a contract for a championship match of the winner's choosing.
There are no pinfalls, submissions, disqualifications or count outs -- the only way to win the match is to claim the briefcase.
What is a Money in the Bank cash-in?
Once a superstar has the briefcase in their possession, they can "cash in" for a championship opportunity at any time. This can come by way of an announced match, but it most commonly occurs in an unexpected fashion when the champion is vulnerable.
For example, the most recent cash-in occurred at the 2025 SummerSlam PLE -- after CM Punk endured a 30-plus minute match and defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins (feigning injury) emerged and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract beating Punk to become champion.
