News: 4 days agoThe Sun exercised the fourth-year option on Edwards' contract Sunday, Richard Cohen of HerHoopStats.com reports.

Spin: The move means that Edwards is under contract with Connecticut in 2027, when she will earn $424,362. The third-year player is looking to establish a larger role for herself with the Sun after being acquired from the Mystics in August. Across 15 regular-season games with the Sun in 2025, Edwards averaged 4.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.9 steals over 17.0 minutes per game.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: After a promising rookie season in 2024, Edwards struggled to begin 2025 and was traded to the Sun. With Connecticut in the midst of a rebuild, Edwards' playing time may be prioritized, but in 15 appearances with the Sun last year, she averaged only 4.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 17.0 minutes per game. This is an important year for Edwards' future in Connecticut, as the club has an option for 2027 before she'd become a restricted free agent in 2028. If she can carve out a starting role or play 20-plus minutes off the bench in 2026, she should be a solid pick in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts, but given her regression as a sophomore and Connecticut's offseason acquisition of Brittney Griner, Edwards is certainly a risky selection.
