Former Barcelona and Chelsea winger Pedro Rodríguez has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 39.
Pedro had been without a club since leaving Italian side Lazio at the end of last season.
The ex-Spain international calls time on a hugely successful career which saw him win the World Cup, the European Championship and the Champions League.
"I feel that now is the moment," Pedro wrote on social media alongside a video featuring the best moments from his career.
"It's the moment to take a step forward and start a new chapter in my life. I leave the game proud of fulfilling my dreams and of all the people who were alongside me making them a reality.
"Thank you, football, for making me so happy."
Born in Tenerife, Pedro made the move to mainland Spain in 2005 when he joined Barcelona as a teenager from San Isidro.
After several seasons playing for Barça C and Barça B, he made his first team debut for the Catalan giants in 2008 and went on to make 321 appearances for the club, scoring 99 goals.
During that period, he won five LaLiga titles and three Champions Leagues, among many other trophies.
He also lifted the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championships in 2012 with Spain, who he played 65 times for before retiring from international football in 2017.
After leaving Barça in 2015, Pedro spent five seasons in England with Chelsea, making 206 appearances and scoring 43 goals.
He was part of the Chelsea side which won the Premier League in 2017 before moving to Roma for a season in 2020 and then ending his career with Lazio.
Despite being in the twilight of his playing days, he was a roaring success at the Rome-based club, playing for them 209 times over five years and netting 39 goals.
