Raphinha returns to Barcelona after injury on Brazil duty

Raphinha will return to Barcelona after suffering a thigh injury in Brazil's 4-2 friendly win over Australia on Tuesday.

The Brazilian Football Confederation [CBF] have confirmed the in-form forward will not feature against India on Saturday to allow him to travel back to Europe.

Club sources at Barça said Raphinha will have further tests upon his arrival back in Spain, but the injury is not initially thought to be serious.

"On Wednesday, Raphinha underwent tests that revealed a minor muscle edema in the back of his right thigh," the CBF said.

"As a precaution, and to ensure a speedy recovery, the player will be released from the Brazilian national team, with no replacement called up in his place."

Barça will manage the situation with caution given the injury is in an area where Raphinha experienced a lot of problems last season.

He missed 25 games for club and country in 2025-26 with various hamstring injuries in his right leg.

Converted into a No.9 this season by Barça coach Hansi Flick, Raphinha has started the new campaign in fine form, netting 14 goals in eight appearances in all competitions for his club.

His form for Brazil had also been good. He created a goal in last week's 1-1 draw against Australia, when he played 90 minutes, and scored a penalty before being taken of at half-time in Tuesday's victory.

Barça's next game is against Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou in LaLiga on Oct. 10, with matches to follow against Galatasaray, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, among others, in a hectic October.
