Nicol: Scotland deserved to lose vs. Morocco (1:00)

Morocco have defeated Scotland 1-0 in Group C at the World Cup -- as an early goal from Ismael Saibari proved to be the difference.

Saibari was played through by Brahim Díaz shortly after kick-off, before the PSV Eindhoven man took it down and fired past Angus Gunn at the far post.

And while both sides had chances in the second half, an equaliser never came, leaving the north African side all but certainly through to the knockouts, while the fate of Steve Clarke's side remains uncertain.

Here's how it happened.

The Scots were top of the group heading into Friday's clash -- having seen off Haiti 1-0 in a hard-fought battle on June 13 at Boston Stadium -- the same venue as this evening's proceedings.

But Morocco moved into first after the result, knowing that their remaining game is against the Haitians, who themselves must avoid defeat to Brazil in order to avoid elimination after the second round of group stage matches.

Finishing top of Group C would book Morocco or Scotland a last-32 clash against the runner-up of Group F -- which contains Netherlands, Japan, Sweden and Tunisia, and vice-versa.
