Trent Alexander-Arnold has been omitted from Thomas Tuchel's squad ahead of England's friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Tuchel named 35 players for a squad to play two friendly matches this month. It is his last squad before he confirms the 26 players that he will take to the World Cup so Alexander-Arnold's omission is a setback to his hopes of travelling.
Here are all the players who didn't make the fold as England prepare for their last camp before this summer's World Cup.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Perhaps the most surprising news from Tuchel's squad announcement is the omission of Real Madrid's Alexander-Arnold, who's been in good form as of late.
Jarell Quansah,Tino Livramento and Djed Spence have been called upon instead as Tuchel praised England's success in the World Cup qualifiers last year.
"I know it's a big name, a huge talent and big career. But I know what Trent can give us," Tuchel said.
"But we have good evidence of how good we were in September, October and November.
"The players in camp at right back must push to earn their spot on the plan to the World Cup."
Later on Friday, Tuchel told talkSPORT he had "not yet" contacted Alexander-Arnold about the omission and when asked whether the player thought his World Cup dream was over, replied: "I don't know."
Ollie Watkins
Ollie Watkins scored one of England's most important goals when his last-gasp winner against Netherland, put England through to the Euro 2024 final.
But Aston Villa's striker -- with nine goals and two assists in all competitions this season -- hasn't impressed Tuchel enough as he's left out of the mix.
Instead, back-up options to Harry Kane include Dominic Solanke and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the latter hailed for his decisiveness and impressive penalty taking ability.
Luke Shaw
Manchester United's Luke Shaw has also been left out.
The left back's last England appearance was in the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain, when he played a key role under former boss Gareth Southgate, but has been out of international duty since.
When fit, Shaw boasts quality and experience and has been a precious asset for England, but Tuchel will test youngsters Nico O'Reilly and Lewis Hall, who have shown plenty of promise in the left back position.
Danny Welbeck
Despite having an excellent season so far, Brighton's Danny Welbeck has not received a call up.
The 35-year-old is an experienced international with 46 caps, featuring in two World Cup campaigns in 2014 and 2018, but Calvert-Lewin and Solanke are ahead of him in the pecking order.
Alex Scott
After earning his first senior call-up to the England national team in Nov. 2025, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott was hopeful of a return, but the 22-year-old has been left out on this occasion.
Kobbie Mainoo's return to the squad means he has taken Scott's midfield slot along with James Garner, who receives his first England call up after a terrific season at Everton.
Max Dowman
Like pretty much every football fan, Tuchel has been highly impressed with 16-year-old Dowman, who became the Premier League's youngest-ever scorer when he scored a remarkable stoppage-time goal in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton.
Smiling at the mention of his name, the England boss pointed out that Dowman is not yet a regular starter but is in a good position to build his minutes.
"We have the chance to call him up for the World Cup but there is no need to call him up now and increase the pressure and noise," Tuchel said.
Morgan Gibbs-White
Perhaps another surprise is no Gibbs-White.
He's been a consistent performer at Nottingham Forest this season but with a wealth of talent in midfield at Tuchel's disposal, Gibbs-White doesn't make the cut.
