AC Milan's Champions League spot in danger after Sassuolo defeat

AC Milan are in danger of losing their Champions League place as city rivals Inter Milan close in on the Serie A title.

Massimiliano Allegri's team were reduced to 10 men and beaten 2-0 at Sassuolo on Sunday -- their fourth defeat in seven matches.

Third-placed Milan are now only three points ahead of fourth-placed Juventus -- who host Hellas Verona -- and five points ahead of fifth-placed Como, who are trying to get into the top four and secure a Champions League spot.

Three more matches remain in the Italian league.

Domenico Berardi scored early on for Sassuolo for his 12th career goal against Milan and Fikayo Tomori was sent off before Armand Laurienté doubled the advantage after the break.

Milan have scored only one goal in their last five matches.

Inter, who are 12 points ahead of Milan, can seal the title with a draw against visiting Parma on Sunday evening.

Earlier, Bologna were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari in a regional derby.
