Utah Royals edge North Carolina Courage 2-1
Kate Del Fava and Ally Sentnor each scored as the Utah Royals beat the North Carolina Courage 2-1 on Friday at America First Field.
Del Fava opened the scoring with a header in the 15th minute as assisted by Paige Monaghan with a cross following a corner, while Sentnor's long-range effort 15 minutes later proved to be the winning goal.
The Courage responded after Del Fava's opening score when Ashley Sanchez equalized with her right-footed shot from inside the box at the 26-minute mark.
North Carolina had multiple opportunities in the second half, but two penalties -- both taken by Malia Berkely -- were missed in quick succession, with one hitting post while the other was saved.
