The Seattle Seahawks decided not to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Sources had told ESPN on Monday that the team planned to sign Mixon -- who did not play in 2025 due to a foot injury -- but that it was contingent on passing a physical.

Speaking with reporters Monday afternoon, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Mixon worked out for the team but spoke in non-definitive terms about a signing.

"Joe worked out this morning and he's going through the process right now," Macdonald said.

The Seahawks plan to sign running back Robert Henry Jr. off the Washington Commanders' practice squad, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by Jordan Schultz. Henry, an undrafted rookie out of UTSA, has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Mixon, 30, was released in March by the Houston Texans after pending the entire 2025 season on their non-football injury list. In 2024, he rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl honors in his first season with Houston.

Rookie Jadarian Price, the Seahawks' top running back and first-round pick, will miss at least three more games after he was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a chest injury. During his pregame radio interview on Seattle Sports 710-AM, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Sunday that while it's not clear how long Price will be sidelined, the team doesn't "see it as a season-ending thing at all."

Jacardia Wright, the only running back currently on Seattle's practice squad, is dealing with a foot injury, a source told ESPN.

"We're down runners," Macdonald said Monday when asked about Seattle's interest in Mixon. "We need running backs. He's a good running back."

With Price out, Emanuel Wilson is Seattle's lead back. George Holani, who plays extensively on third down, is RB2. Velus Jones Jr, just signed off the Seahawks' practice squad, is their RB3. Zach Charbonnet, who's on the physically unable to perform list, is also nearing a return from the ACL tear he suffered in last season's playoffs.

On Sunday, in a 30-23 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Wilson took advantage of his opportunity by catching a touchdown pass and running for another score. He rushed for 81 yards on 21 carries and caught three passes for 39 yards.

Charbonnet, a co-starter in 2025, began practicing last Thursday. He's now eligible to play after missing the requisite four games, though Macdonald told 710-AM on Monday that Charbonnet won't make his season debut this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers.
