News: 6 days agoVirgil secured five of six targets for 66 yards in the Cardinals' 33-30 preseason loss to the Panthers on Thursday.

Spin: The rookie fifth-round pick led the Cardinals in receptions and targets while finishing second in receiving yards on the night to Jalen Brooks. Virgil is battling Brooks and veterans such as Devin Duvernay and Simi Fehoko for a spot on the latter portion of the wide-receiver depth chart, and Virgil got his quest off to an excellent start Thursday. Given the promise he showed, Virgil should continue seeing plenty of snaps in the Cardinals' preseason game on the road against the Raiders next Thursday.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Virgil was selected by the Cardinals in the fifth round of April's draft. Virgil is a tall, thin, perimeter, vertical receiver who ranked near the top of this WR rookie class in aDOT (14.7) and YPR (15.8) but near the basement in RAC (4.5), catch rate (54%) and YPRR (1.79) during his career at Miami Ohio and Texas Tech. A class-high 48% of his targets came on deep routes, though he played a more well-rounded role in 2025 -- his lone season with the Red Raiders. Virgil ran a 4.57 40-yard dash at 187 pounds at the combine, which works out to a poor speed score of 86. Virgil will battle Kendrick Bourne for No. 3 duties behind Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson. He's off the short-term fantasy radar.
