During the 2015 season, running back DeMarco Murray averaged just 3.6 yards a carry for Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Eagles. With a game plan that often failed to cater to Murray's natural downhill running style, the veteran back produced only 702 yards on the ground after rushing for 1,845 yards (4.7 per carry) and 13 scores in 2014 with the Dallas Cowboys.
In short, Murray's lack of production and quality film this past season made everyone question the move by Kelly and the Eagles. Was this guy even a fit for what the head coach truly wanted at the position? I'm still wondering that, to be honest.
But with Kelly now dismissed in Philadelphia, the Eagles' front office and new head coach Doug Pederson has started cleaning house, making multiple moves to unload players and contracts acquired under the former boss. As part of the purge, Murray was shipped off to the Tennessee Titans in a trade reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A good move by a Tennessee team trying to find a true identity with second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota? I can buy that when looking at this team under new head coach Mike Mularkey and offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie. They want a true No. 1 back, a player who can carry the ball 15-20 times a game. And Murray can give you that. He has proven he can run the rock all day based off his film from 2014 in Dallas.
Does that help Mariota? Absolutely.
