The major league-best Milwaukee Brewers were missing a key piece to their lineup, second baseman Brice Turang, for Thursday night's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
They're hoping it won't be for much longer.
Manager Pat Murphy told reporters in Los Angeles that an MRI on Turang's left knee didn't reveal anything serious but he'll get a second opinion on the imaging to make sure.
"Been nursing this knee pain and just got to a point where he really needs to take some time," Murphy said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We don't know how long. They're saying day-to-day. He had an MRI today. The MRI did not reveal so far anything we're too worried about. Obviously, he can't play tonight."
David Hamilton was in at second base in the opener of a matchup between division leaders.
The Turang injury is the latest to the Brewers' infield. Shortstop Cooper Pratt went on the injured list with a strained right hamstring Sunday.
Turang leads Milwaukee with 76 RBIs, and his 16 home runs rank third on the team.
