Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson's major-league-record errorless streak at the position continued to 113 games Tuesday night, after an errant throw in the eighth inning was overturned from its original ruling.
In his club's 12-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, Wilson threw wide of Donovan Walton at second base. It came with the A's trailing 9-2, and the Rays scored three times in the eighth to take a 12-2 lead.
Originally, it was ruled an error, Wilson's first since July 6, 2025, and the ninth in his career over 231 games. But it was later changed to Yandy Díaz reached on a fielder's choice, and an inning later, Wilson's streak had officially lived on for another day.
At Fenway Park, in a Sunday win over the Boston Red Sox, Wilson, 24, surpassed Mike Bordick's shortstop errorless record of 110 games. His father, Jack Wilson, played 12 years in the majors, also at shortstop. After setting the record, Wilson spoke highly of his father's teachings.
"He's a very defensive-first guy for me growing up by teaching me defense first before the hitting side of things," Wilson said, "and making sure you're always prepared to play defense every day."
The Athletics will conclude their series against the Rays on Wednesday afternoon.
