The biggest mover at the top of the rankings is Allisha Gray, up six spots from a preseason ranking of 14th to a current ranking of eighth. Gray has gotten off to a fast start this season, leading the Atlanta Dream with 21.7 PPG in a three-star unit also featuring Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese. Last season was the best of her career, but through the first couple of weeks she is on pace for career marks in scoring and field goal percentage.
Two big movers in this week's rankings come from the Las Vegas Aces, and they are moving in opposite directions.
Last season, Jewell Loyd developed into a major contributor off the bench for the Aces on their way to the championship. But they brought in Chennedy Carter this offseason after she had been out of the league for a year, and she has picked up right where she left off. She is playing herself right up the rankings, and in the betting market she is making herself a favorite to win Sixth Player of the Year.
Two members of the Portland Fire are also big movers, but both in the positive direction. Bridget Carleton and Emily Engstler have both stepped up as primary producers for the newly revived Portland Fire. Engstler is up 32 spots in the rankings, while Carleton is up 25 spots and into the top-40.
Arike Ogunbowale is down 12 slots in the rankings since the preseason, from No. 16 to 28. Ogunbowale used to be one of the biggest scorers in the WNBA, but last season she had to adjust to then-top overall pick Paige Bueckers joining the Dallas Wings and taking on major share of the shots and offensive creation.
But the Wings had the top overall pick this season as well, joining another elite guard/wing scorer in Azzi Fudd. Fudd just dropped a career-high 24 points with six 3-pointers, and looks likely to join with her ex UConn teammate Bueckers as another primary scorer. There's only one ball, so multiple plus scoring teammates limits Ogunbowale's upside moving forward.
