Detroit Lions safety Christian Izien - who is from Far Rockaway, Queens, but has always proudly represented Nigeria too - was a standout among many NFL stars with ties to Africa who shone in Week 3.
There were some highlights on offense too - notably from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and John Metchie III - but generally, this was a week where defense shone brightest for the continent's stars.
Africa Player of the Week: Christian Izien (Detroit Lions)
Izien was immensely influential for the Detroit Lions in their 31-24 win over the New York Jets, making a total of 11 tackles - nine of which were solo tackles - and defending one pass.
Izien - who has family ties to Nigeria - made three tackles for loss in addition to a vital intervention to prevent a touchdown right on the stroke of half-time. Geno Smith went for a Hail Mary with the Jets 10-7 down, but amid a sea of bodies from both teams, it was Izien who got to the ball first to tip it away.
His performance played a key role in the game ending in favour of the Lions - who are 2-1 for the season, with the Jets 1-2.
Africa Moment of the Week: Thomas Incoom and Maema Njongmeta (Carolina Panthers)
There were plenty of big hits to choose from among Africa's NFL stars. However, Incoom (born in Ghana) and Njongmeta (born in Cameroon) get the nod for collaborating in a moment which demonstrated what Africa has to offer the NFL.
As their Carolina Panthers faced the Cleveland Browns, Njongmeta forced a fumble with a huge hit on Malachi Corley and then Incoom - who had earlier set the tone with a massive hit himself - was on hand for the fumble recovery.
Although the Browns ultimately emerged victorious 21-18, it was not for any want of trying from the West African duo.
Honorable mentions
Jaxon Smith-Njigba - who proudly represents Sierra Leone, with which he has ties through his grandparents - scored two touchdowns among a total of 10 receptions for 128 yards. His Seattle Seahawks lost 33-31 to the Washington Commanders despite his contribution on offense and Uchenna Nwosu (ties to Nigeria) defending a pass.
John Metchie III - who is of Nigerian and Taiwanese descent and lived in Ghana as a young child - scored a touchdown for the Panthers in their defeat to the Browns. Nigerian-American outside linebacker Princely Umanmielen also made a notable contribution even in defeat for the Panthers, picking up a sack.
Adetomiwa Adebawore deserves special mention for his 1.5 sacks for the Indianapolis Colts in their 19-17 win over the Houston Texans.
Ruke Orhorhoro (Jacksonville Jaguars), Ogbo Okoronkwo (San Francisco 49ers), Eyioma Uwazurike (Denver Broncos), and Dayo Odeyingbo (Chicago Bears) - all of Nigerian descent - all picked up sacks in Week 3 wins.
Osa Odighizuwa, who contributed to the Niners' 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals with a pass defended, also has ties to Nigeria.
So, too, do players who had impressive moments on both sides of the Buffalo Bills' 24-16 win over the LA Chargers - Davison Igbinosun defended a pass for the winning side and Justin Eboigbe forced a fumble for the Chargers.
Africa-born player watch
Ghana's Incoom and Cameroon's Njongmeta did the continent proud with their performances for the Panthers in the Browns loss. It is worth noting that Ruke Orhorhoro, who picked up a sack for the Jacksonville Jaguars in their 35-6 thrashing of the New England Patriots, was born in Lagos - one of many players who flew the Nigerian flag high in Week 3.
