Harmanpreet Kaur will play her 200th T20I on Sunday when India face South Africa in Manchester. She will become the first player - male or female - to feature in 200 T20Is. Here is a list of major milestones achieved by women before men in T20I cricket.

The first T20I match

The men's game might get more attention, but the women got there first. The first T20I match ever was played between the women's teams of England and New Zealand during the 2004 tour, in Hove on August 5, 2004. It was played about six months before the first men's T20I, between New Zealand and Australia in Auckland on February 17, 2005.

The first five-wicket haul in T20Is...

... is in the name of Amy Satterthwaite. She ended with figures of 6 for 17 for New Zealand against England in 2007 in Taunton.

The first five-for in a T20 World Cup game was recorded at the same venue in 2009 by Priyanka Roy for India when she took 5 for 16 against Pakistan.

Only a few hours after that did the first five-for in a men's T20I come about, by Pakistan's Umar Gul against New Zealand at The Oval, also in a T20 World Cup game.

The first bowler, man or woman, to take a T20I seven-wicket haul was Netherlands' Frederique Overdijk against France in 2021, while Brazil's Laura Cardoso became the first to take a nine-for earlier this year, against Lesotho.

Edwards and Bates get there first

Charlotte Edwards became the first to complete 2000 runs in T20Is, a milestone she reached against Bangladesh during the 2014 T20 World Cup, a day before Brendon McCullum became the first man to get there. It was McCullum who was the first to 1000 runs, while Edwards was second.

In 2018, Suzie Bates became the first batter to complete 3000 runs in the T20I format. She was also the second to reach 4000 T20I runs, after Virat Kohli. Bates, in all likelihood, will retire as the leading run-getter in the T20I format, although falling short of becoming the first to 5000 runs, a feat that Smriti Mandhana could be the first to accomplish.

Anisa Mohammed pips Lasith Malinga to the post

Anisa Mohammed became the first to take 100 wickets in T20I cricket, a milestone she completed during West Indies' triumph against Australia in the 2016 World Cup final.

It was only in 2019 that a man got to 100 wickets in T20Is - Lasith Malinga against New Zealand, in a game where he took a five-for, including four off consecutive balls.

Breaching 300 and 400

Uganda became the first team to breach the 300-run mark in T20I history, and also in all T20 cricket. They achieved it against Mali in 2019 when they posted 314 for 2 with hundreds from Prosscovia Alako and Rita Musamali.

Four years later, Argentina recorded the first 400-run total. They amassed 427 for 1 against Chile in 2023, with Lucia Taylor scoring 169 and Albertina Galan 145*. No other team has recorded a 350-plus total in T20s yet.

The first century partnership

The first century stand was recorded by Australia's Karen Rolton and Kate Blackwell - 147 runs for the fourth wicket - against England in 2005. The two came together after Australia were 6 for 3 in three overs in a 153-run chase.

The first century stand in men's T20Is was recorded in 2006, by Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs, who added 111 for the second wicket for South Africa in only 10.3 overs against Australia.

When Argentina put up that mammoth total against Chile, Taylor and Galan put up 350 runs for the first wicket - the first triple-century partnership in T20s. It is still the only 300-plus stand in all T20 cricket.

And now, Harmanpreet's mark

Harmanpreet will become the first to play 200 T20Is after having been the first to play 150 T20Is too. She achieved that during the 2023 World Cup game against Ireland at Gqeberha.

On Saturday, a day before Harmanpreet's 200th T20I, Ellyse Perry became the first player to feature in 50 matches at the T20 World Cup .

The first player to feature in 100 T20I matches was also a woman, England's Jenny Gunn, whose 100th T20I was against India during a tri-series match at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium.

The first man to feature in 100 T20Is was Pakistan's Shoaib Malik, who also achieved it in 2018, while India's Rohit Sharma, in 2024, became the first man to play 150 T20Is.

Gunn was also the first woman to feature in 50 T20Is, alongside Edwards, in 2012. Only Shahid Afridi of Pakistan had played that many before them.
