The Punjab Kings (PBKS) openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya tore into the Delhi Capitals (DC) attack in Delhi to post the second-highest powerplay total by a team in the history of the IPL. It was also the second instance of a team scoring over 100 in the powerplay in IPL 2026. Here are the top six instances of teams scoring over 100 in powerplays in the IPL.
125 for 0 - Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals, Delhi, 2024
It was the first season of Travishek, and they had plenty of fun. After DC opted to bowl, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma left DC wondering what to do by taking 125 runs off the powerplay, the highest ever in the IPL. Each of the first six overs went for at least 19 runs, even as DC tried five different bowlers. Head and Abhishek combined to thump 13 fours and 11 sixes in the first six overs, which Head finished on a staggering 84 not out off just 26 balls. Abhishek, meanwhile, was going at a strike rate of 400 in smashing 40 from ten deliveries.
116 for 0 - Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals, Delhi, 2026
In pursuit of a mammoth 265, PBKS came out all guns blazing to deal mostly in sixes at the start. Arya smashed Auqib Nabi over the midwicket rope to kickstart the chase and Prabhsimran ended the first over with another six. Two more of those came in the second over and two ended the third over too, to bring up PBKS' fifty. Nabi was belted for four more sixes in the 27-run fourth over and PBKS had smoked 10 sixes already. But the real carnage came in the sixth over when Prabhsimran carted Mukesh Kumar to different corners of the ground for six fours in a row. Prabhsimran alone reached 71 off 23 in the powerplay, with Arya on 38 and PBKS were off.
107 for 0 - Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants, Hyderabad, 2024
Travishek was at it again. LSG set SRH 166 to win, which they chased down inside ten overs. Abhishek started the carnage in the second over by going 4, 4, 4, 4 off successive legal deliveries from Yash Thakur. Head went even better. Despite two dots, K Gowtham was hit for 22 runs - three sixes and a four. The next three overs cost 60 runs, the highlight of which was Head going 4, 4, 6, 4, 4 off Naveen-ul-Haq in the fifth over. SRH finished the powerplay on 107 for no loss.
105 for 0 - Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bengaluru, 2017
Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn set KKR's chase of 159 alight. After Lynn hit Aniket Choudhary for two fours and a six in the opening over, Samuel Badree gave just six runs in the second. But from 20 for 0 in two overs, KKR went to 105 for 0 in six. Lynn took Yuzvendra Chahal for 14 runs, and Narine cracked 6, 6, 6, 4 off Badree to pick 25. Narine then crashed Sreenath Aravind for four fours and a six. On the way, he raised fifty off 15 balls - the joint-fastest in IPL at the time. Lynn completed the powerplay with a 20-run over, including two sixes and a four, off Chahal.
105 for 0 - Punjab Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, New Chandigarh, 2026
Take three from Head and Abhishek. They looted 105 runs in the powerplay, although only 20 runs came off the first two overs. All three boundaries until then had come from Abhishek, who then smashed two fours and two sixes in a 24-run over from Arshdeep Singh. Head got into the act in the fourth over. He took Marco Jansen for two fours and a six, before Abhishek launched Vijaykumar Vyshak for 6, 0, 6, 6, 0, 6. Head began the final over of the powerplay with 4, 4, 4 off Xavier Bartlett, whom Abhishek also took for a six.
100 for 2 - Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai, 2014
Set 227 by Kings XI Punjab (now PBKS) to win Qualifier 2, CSK were 9 for 1 after one over. But Suresh Raina went 4, 4, 0, 6, 4, 0 off Sandeep Sharma to plunder 18 runs off the second over, before taking two boundaries off Parwinder Awana in the third. Raina then bashed Mitchell Johnson for a four and two sixes in a 20-run fourth over. Sandeep conceded only 11 in his next over, before Raina tore into Awana with 6, 6, 4, 4, 4 (nb), 4, 4 to rake up 33 and take CSK to 100 for 2 in six overs. But CSK still lost the match.
