Rodriguez's 5 RBIs push Texas past Oregon

Adrian Rodriguez had two hits and drove in five runs to power the Texas Longhorns to an 11-3 victory over the Oregon Ducks on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in the opening game of the NCAA Austin Super Regional.

Rodriguez broke the game open in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run double that gave Texas a lead it would never relinquish. The Longhorns' offense continued to roll, with Casey Borba and Ethan Mendoza each adding home runs. Temo Becerra went 2-for-3 with a double and Anthony Pack Jr. was 2-for-4 and scored three times.

On the mound, Texas starter Dylan Volantis navigated through traffic to keep the Ducks at bay. Over 5⅓ innings, Volantis struck out 10 batters while allowing two earned runs on eight hits and four walks. He consistently made big pitches to escape jams, as Oregon left runners in scoring position in each of the first four innings against him.

The Ducks' offense was highlighted by a home run from Drew Smith in the eighth inning. Jax Gimenez, Naulivou Lauaki Jr. and Maddox Molony each had two hits. Starting pitcher Cal Scolari allowed five earned runs and walked six in 3⅔ innings.

Up next: The Ducks and the Longhorns will play Game 2 of their series at 9 p.m. ET Sunday in Austin.
