Former Ram James Laurinaitis enjoying new start in New Orleans

OXNARD, Calif. -- During these organized team activities, the Los Angeles Rams are breaking in a new middle linebacker in Alec Ogletree. Ogletree is jumping into his new position after three years learning behind veteran leader James Laurinaitis.

The Rams released Laurinaitis in February before the team moved its operations back to the west coast. In searching for a new landing spot, Laurinaitis made it clear one of the things he was looking for was a team that had its quarterback situation squared away.

After all, quarterback play had been one of the major sticking points keeping the Rams from getting over the hump to a winning season during Laurinaitis' seven seasons with the team.

Laurinaitis signed with the New Orleans Saints after looking around at potential options. Clearly, quarterback is no problem in the Big Easy with Drew Brees at the controls. And, as Saints reporter Mike Triplett writes, Laurinaitis is enjoying the daily opportunity to face Brees in practice.

Of course, Rams fans reading the piece probably took notice of the part at the end where Laurinaitis said, "It's refreshing to me being in a place where they've won [and] the expectations are to get back to that" and "Then to get back to here where you hear 7-9 is just not acceptable, it's awesome to be around that hunger." While that could be construed as a shot at the Rams, that's not really Laurinaitis' style.

The bigger point here seems to be that Laurinaitis is now in a place that has gotten over the hump of mediocrity and his teammates know what it takes to make that happen, whereas the Rams were never able to experience that, so getting to that level proved more difficult.

Either way, both sides seem happy with their offseason moves.
