PHILADELPHIA -- With a day off from training camp, the Philadelphia Eagles made a few minor roster moves on Monday.
The Eagles released wide receiver John Harris and waived/injured defensive end Frances Mays.
Wide receiver Freddie Martino, who played in one game last season for the Atlanta Falcons, was signed. Martino, who will turn 24 next month, is 6-foot, 195 pounds.
That is a little on the small side for Eagles coach Chip Kelly, who likes bigger receivers. Harris seemed to fit that bill with his 6-foot-2, 218-pound frame. At the University of Texas, Harris was a solid blocker, another quality Kelly covets in his wide receivers.
Size is important, but it isn’t everything. Kelly also likes tall defensive ends. Mays is 6-foot-9, 291 pounds, but he injured a finger. He was released with an injury settlement.
The Eagles resume camp practices Tuesday at the NovaCare Complex.
