Beyonce, Bruno Mars steal the show with Super Bowl 50 halftime performance

A day after Beyonce shocked the world with her new song and video "Formation," the megastar took over the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, performing the song live for the first time.

It spiced up a rather slow start to the halftime festivities as Coldplay opened up the performance with a colorful performance of "Viva La Vida" (prop bet paid out 5-to-1 as the first song).

Lead singer Chris Martin looked into the camera and said to the millions watching at home: "We're all in this together." That didn't exactly get the crowd going.

We may have seen Bruno Mars (2014) and Beyonce (2013) recently perform at the Super Bowl, but their presence Sunday helped boost the halftime show. Bruno Mars added energy with "Uptown Funk," slightly changing up the popular 2015 tune and showcasing his stellar dance moves. Beyonce followed with her all female dancers as she performed "Formation."

Bruno Mars and Beyonce left the stage briefly as Coldplay paid tribute to past Super Bowl performers, and all three reconvened for the big finish.

Overall? It could have used more Beyonce and less Coldplay. It wouldn't have hurt to bring back the dancing sharks from last year, either. Perhaps they'll make a return at Super Bowl LI in Houston in 2017.
