Deportivo La Coruña 2-3 Sporting Gijon

Sporting Gijon picked up their first win of the Primera Division season by seeing off local rivals Deportivo La Coruna 3-2 in a thrilling game at Riazor.Roma loanee Antonio Sanabria scored twice in the opening eight minutes to get the visitors off to a fantastic start, but the Galicians fought their way back through goals by Juanfran and Luis Alberto, only for Alex Menendez to restore Sporting's lead 11 minutes before the break.Deportivo dominated the second half but were unable to find another equaliser, although Lucas Perez struck the woodwork and Alberto saw a curling shot go narrowly wide.Sporting had failed to score in each of their first three games back in the top flight, but took the lead after just three minutes, when captain Alberto Lora turned a defender and then delivered a sweeping cross for Sanabria to head home. The Asturians doubled their lead just four minutes later thanks to the determination of Barcelona loanee Allen Hallilovic, who battled to keep the ball in play and then released Lora with a backheel flick, and the full-back again delivered a perfect cross for Sanabria to head in.Depor looked rattled by their dismal start but soon found composure and pulled a goal back on 16 minutes when Juanfran's flicked header from a corner crept in at the far post. They levelled 11 minutes later thanks to Alberto's low driven effort and then thought they had taken the lead, but Sidnei's header from a free-kick was correctly ruled offside. The hosts were then delivered another sucker punch as Hallilovic burst forward on the break and played in Menendez, who drilled the ball into the far corner, grabbing what proved to be the winning goal.ends

Lucas Perez gives Depor first league win of season away to Rayo

Striker Lucas Perez wrapped up a comfortable first Primera Division victory of the season as Deportivo la Coruna brushed 10-man Rayo Vallecano aside. Lucas struck just after the hour to cement a 3-1 win at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas after Celso Borges and Luis Alberto had scored for the visitors either side of Adri Embarba's equaliser before half-time. Deportivo, who went into the game unbeaten, took the lead with just seven minutes gone when Luis Alberto was allowed to cross from the left and midfielder Borges headed back across goalkeeper Juan Carlos and inside the far post. Lucas had appeals for a ninth-minute penalty waved away after being crowded out as he burst into the box, but Rayo were level with 27 minutes gone when Embarba made the most of Patrick Ebert's extravagant dummy to draw keeper German Lux and score. But they were on terms for just 70 seconds as they failed to deal with a ball into the box which was picked up by Luis Alberto, who steadied himself before stepping inside and rifling a right-foot drive into the bottom corner. However, Lucas effectively put the game beyond the home side with an expert 61st-minute finish with the outside of his left foot after being played through. Lucas might have added to his tally with a rasping drive from a tight angle seven minutes later with Rayo wilting, and their woes deepened when Ebert was sent off for a second bookable offence.

        Valencia 1-1 Deportivo La Coruña

Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna are still searching for their first Primera Division win of the season after playing out a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla stadium on Sunday.Lucas Perez fired Deportivo in front with a spectacular long-range strike on 38 minutes, but their lead lasted only seven minutes as Alvaro Negredo rifled home from close range just before half-time to restore parity.Hosts Valencia were reduced to 10 men late on as defender Antonio Barragan was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.Negredo was set up by Rodrigo De Paul with 20 minutes gone but the former Sevilla and Manchester City man shot narrowly wide.Lucas then fired Deportivo into the lead in the 38th minute with a superb long-range strike that silenced the majority of supporters assembled inside the Mestalla. The midfielder, who joined permanently after a successful loan spell at the Estadio Riazor last season, cut inside from the right flank and unleashed an unstoppable left-foot shot from just outside the penalty area that nestled into the corner as goalkeeper Mathew Ryan dived helplessly. But their lead would last only seven minutes as Negredo atoned for his earlier miss with an close-rage equaliser on the stroke of half-time.The Spain international showcased his predatory instincts by peeling away at the far post to smash a knock-down header from Santi Mina's cross past visiting keeper German Lux.Danilo Barbosa had a glorious chance to put Valencia in front early in the second half but he could only head onto the crossbar from point-blank range at the far post after Rodrigo De Paul's free-kick was headed back across goal.Jonathan Rodriguez, on for Juanfran, slotted past Ryan with 10 minutes left but referee Jose Gonzalez correctly disallowed the goal after the Uruguay international forward had fouled Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi in the build-up.Valencia were forced to finish the game a man down when right-back Barragan was dismissed after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession but Deportivo could not profit and were therefore forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

          Depor win boots survival bid

Deportivo La Coruna took a huge step towards survival by producing a resounding performance to beat Levante 2-0.Defender Albert Lopo scored for the second game in a week to give the Galicians the lead on 20 minutes and then Juanfran wrapped up Deportivo's first victory in 15 matches with a late goal. This well-earned victory took Deportivo two points clear of the relegation zone with just one game to play, although that match is a daunting away trip to newly crowned champions Barcelona.Levante mathematically secured survival despite the defeat, as Almeria and Eibar both failed to win their matches.Although they only managed three shots on target, two of which ended up in the net, this was a dominant performance from Deportivo, who were roared on by a packed home crowd taking advantage of the club's initiative to price tickets as low as 10 euros.Lopo scored a vital injury-time leveller at Athletic Bilbao last week and was the hero again here, arriving at the far post to turn in Lucas Perez's free-kick and put Victor Sanchez del Amo's side in charge.Perez could have scored a goal of his own in the second half as he attacked down the left wing before cutting inside, but his shot flew over the bar.In the end the second goal was fittingly scored by Juanfran, Depor's outstanding performer. The midfielder received the ball on the right hand side of the box and cut inside on to his left foot to curl the ball in off the far post, wrapping up a victory that edged the Galicians closer to survival.

Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Deportivo La Coruña

Alberto Lopo scored with the last kick of the match as Deportivo La Coruna snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao which gives them a fighting chance of escaping the bottom three in the Primera Division. The visitors trailed to Aritz Aduriz's goal for much of the contest but Lopo's header three minutes into stoppage-time sparked wild celebrations among the visiting players. The draw is not enough to lift Depor out of the bottom three but they are level on points with Eibar, who hold the last position of safety. However, the result is a sucker punch for Athletic in their hunt for a Europa League spot. Ernesto Valverde's men return to seventh spot in the table but with no breathing space over Espanyol.Things looked to be going Bilbao's way when, after Inaki Williams and Mikel Rico had forced early saves from Depor goalkeeper Fabricio, they took the lead in the 15th minute.Etxebarria Benat's punt forward fell for Aymeric Laporte, who played the ball into the heart of the area for Aduriz to finish with a header. However, Depor soon picked up the pace and had chances to equalise before the interval. Luisinho carved a path through the home defence after 30 minutes but his final effort was weak, while Alex Bergantinos had the ball in the back of the net 11 minutes later but was deemed to be in an offside position when he met Celso Borges' assist. The shots continued to rain in from both sides after the break and Athletic substitute Markel Susaeta came close on the hour mark with a volley which almost caught out Fabricio.Oriol Riera then headed narrowly over for Depor while Aduriz should have had a second for the home side after 70 minutes. Bergantinos' slip in midfield allowed Williams to sneak in and get the ball over to the veteran forward, whose shot sailed over the head of Fabricio before striking the crossbar. But it was the visitors who ramped up the pressure in the dying stages and the breakthrough finally came with the final whistle looming, when Ricardo Ivan Cavaleiro's neat ball into the box was finished by the head of Lopo.ends

              Deportivo La Coruña 1-1 Villarreal

Deportivo La Coruna and Villarreal played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday night, with the visitors the happier of the two with the outcome.Villarreal, chasing a European spot, edged further ahead in sixth thanks to their share, with Jaume Costa having put them ahead.Deportivo remain in the bottom three, though, and this point - earned by Celso Borges equaliser - puts them a point closer to safety but they will consider this two points dropped in their bid to stay up.Desperate for the victory, Depor started the brighter of the sides and registered the first serious effort when Oriol Riera cut in and fizzed in a strike that was rebuffed by Juan Carlos.Villarreal responded with a right-footed drive from Tomas Pina that was charged down, and then Mario Gaspar befell the same outcome.Depor returned to the front foot and Riera's flick-on fell to Luisinho but he could not keep his effort on target, while Juanfran was also errant with a strike from the edge of the box. After a relatively sedate first half the game sprung into life shortly after the break as Villarreal opened the scoring.Forty-eight minutes were on the clock when Costa took aim from the edge of the area, beating Fabricio and putting the visitors ahead. It would be a short-lived lead, though. Just two minutes later Depor went down the other end and Borges slammed in an 18-yarder of his own to level things up.Villarreal hunted a second and Luciano Vietto had a drive kept out, while Lucas Perez was denied for the home side. But when Vietto was off target again with seconds remaining, that proved to be the end of the action.ends

                Elche thrash Deportivo

Elche took another huge step to clinching top-flight survival by easing to a 4-0 win over fellow strugglers Deportivo La Coruna.Top scorer Jonathas de Jesus put the hosts ahead with just five minutes played and David Lomban doubled the lead from the penalty spot on 19 minutes.Mario Pasalic stretched Elche's lead further by scoring early in the second half and in injury time Garry Rodrigues rounded off a dominant display to seal the Alicante side's biggest win in the top flight since 1970.Fran Escriba's side move eight points clear of the relegation zone with just four matches remaining and could seal their top-flight status at Malaga on the weekend, although they are still haunted by the spectre of a possible administrative relegation if they fail to pay off a tax debt of around 5million euro.Deportivo, meanwhile, now occupy the final place in the relegation zone and have gone 12 matches without a win.Uncertainty off the pitch has plagued Elche in recent weeks and on Monday Jose Seculpre resigned as president following immense pressure, with Juan Anguix named as his successor the day before this crucial match with Deportivo. But for the third time in a fortnight, Escriba's men put institutional instability behind them to produce a performance full of confidence and verve. They dominated the game from the off, and had two chances to score before Jonathas fired them into the lead after a splendid piece of skill and cut-back from Damian Suarez. It was the Brazilian's 11th goal of the season and he celebrated in an unusual manner, donning a pair of sunglasses as he posed for the cameras.Things got even better for Elche when Enzo Roco was felled by Oriol Riera following a free-kick and Lomban cooly sent Fabricio the wrong way to score from 12 yards.Depor burst into life at the start of the second half and created three scoring chances within minutes of the restart but neither Lucas Perez nor Riera, on two occasions, could make the most of their opportunities. And Victor Sanchez del Amo's side were dealt a hammer blow seven minutes into the second period.Suarez took advantage of Depor's high defensive line to release Jonathas, and the Brazilian's shot ricocheted off Fabricio and looped towards goal, but Pasalic made sure by beating a Depor defender to nod it over the goal line.To their credit, the Galicians continued to look for a consolation goal but instead they conceded yet again.A minute into stoppage time Elche cleared a corner and substitute Rodrigues made the most of his fresh legs to race forward from his own area towards Depor's goal, firing past Fabricio just before he reached the box.
