Commentary
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this FIFA World Cup Group E clash between Ecuador and Germany!
Ecuador head into this one knowing only a victory will leave them with a chance of qualifying for the knockouts. Sebastian Beccacece’s men only have a single point to their name after two matches played following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Curacao on Sunday. That game came six days after a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast, meaning Ecuador have failed to score a single goal so far in this tournament. The only CONMEBOL team to go through an entire World Cup without scoring is Bolivia, in both 1930 (two games) and 1950 (one game).
Meanwhile, Germany come into the game knowing they’ve already secured a spot in the knockouts. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have won both of their opening matches of the tournament, having hammered Curacao 7-1 on matchday one before securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on Saturday. The results mean Germany have won their last 11 matches in all competitions and a win in this game will equal their longest ever winning run, a 12-game stretch between May 1979 and June 1980.
ECUADOR (4-4-2): Hernan Galindez; Piero Hincapie, Willian Pacho, Joel Ordonez, Alan Franco; Nilson Angulo, Moises Caicedo, Pedro Vite, John Yeboah; Enner Valencia, Gonzalo Plata.
ECUADOR SUBS: Felix Torres, Jordy Alcivar, Pervis Estupinan, Anthony Valencia, Kendry Paez, Kevin Rodriguez, Moises Ramirez, Alan Minda, Jordy Caicedo, Angelo Preciado, Denil Castillo, Gonzalo Valle, Jeremy Arevalo, Jackson Porozo, Yaimar Medina.
GERMANY (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rudiger, David Raum; Aleksandar Pavlovic, Felix Nmecha; Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz; Kai Havertz.
