Sebastian Beccacece’s men only have a single point to their name after two matches played following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Curacao on Sunday. That game came six days after a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast, meaning Ecuador have failed to score a single goal so far in this tournament. The only CONMEBOL team to go through an entire World Cup without scoring is Bolivia, in both 1930 (two games) and 1950 (one game).

Meanwhile, Germany come into the game knowing they’ve already secured a spot in the knockouts. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have won both of their opening matches of the tournament, having hammered Curacao 7-1 on matchday one before securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on Saturday. The results mean Germany have won their last 11 matches in all competitions and a win in this game will equal their longest ever winning run, a 12-game stretch between May 1979 and June 1980.
