India left-arm spinner Shree Charani has become the No. 1 ranked T20I bowler for the first time in her career, going past England's Linsey Smith.
Charani, who made her India debut just over a year ago, is currently the leading wicket-taker at the T20 World Cup with 10 wickets in three games. In the wins against Pakistan and Netherlands, she finished with figures of 3 for 21 and 4 for 19 respectively, and in the loss against South Africa she was India's best bowler, finishing with 3 for 24. So far in T20Is, she has 38 wickets in 23 games at an economy of 7.32.
Smith, meanwhile, has dropped to third in the rankings after a relatively mellow start to the T20 World Cup, with her England team-mate and fellow spinner Charlie Dean rising to No. 2 after five wickets in three matches at the tournament.
Another England spinner, Sophie Ecclestone, moved four spots to fourth in T20I bowling rankings, while West Indies captain Hayley Matthews (up nine places to 11th), Australia fast bowler Kim Garth (up 25 rungs to 20th), Pakistan captain Fatima Sana (up 10 slots to 25th) and Ireland allrounder Orla Prendergast (up 10 spots to 26th) all made big gains in the category.
Among batters, Australia opener Georgia Voll held on to her No. 1 spot despite just 62 runs from three games at the T20 World Cup. India opener Shafali Verma moved one spot up to sixth) while India captain Harmanpreet Kaur went up one place to 10th in the category.
There was no change at the top of the allrounders list too, with Matthews still No. 1 followed by New Zealand captain Melie Kerr.
