Australia Under-19 captain Ollie Peake has been called up to the international squad for the first time, having been included in Australia's under-strength ODI squad to tour Pakistan later this month. But he will not feature in the Bangladesh ODIs or T20Is that follow, with Australia set to welcome back a number of IPL players who will miss the Pakistan leg of the tour.
Australia will be without ODI captain and key T20 bowler Pat Cummins, as well as Josh Hazlewood, from all three series, while Mitchell Starc, who has retired from T20I cricket, will also miss the two ODI series with Australia's selectors choosing to let the trio remain at the IPL - which the Pakistan series overlaps with - before resting from the Bangladesh tour ahead of a huge 15 months of Test cricket. T20 captain Mitchell Marsh will captain the ODI squads in Cummins' absence.
Notably, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been left out of the T20I portion of the Bangladesh tour despite being available. Both men have retired from ODI cricket.
Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett will also remain with their IPL clubs for the playoffs as the three-match Pakistan tour runs from May 31 to June 4. They will all return to the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series that starts on June 9, but Dwarshuis will not be part of the three-match T20I series, which begins on June 17, with Spencer Johnson returning to the squad in his place. Aaron Hardie will also return for the T20 series in Bangladesh after his outstanding PSL 2026 but has been left out of both ODI squads.
In-form South Australia allrounder Liam Scott and Sydney Sixers left-arm spinner Joel Davies have also earned their maiden international call-ups, with Scott included in both ODI squads while Davies has been included in the ODI squad for Pakistan and the T20I squad for Bangladesh. Both Davies and Tasmania fast bowler Riley Meredith will remain with the tour group throughout despite not formally being part of the Bangladesh ODI squad due to the return of the IPL players. Wicketkeeper batter Josh Philippe is another player who will only play in the Bangladesh T20Is.
Tasmania quick Billy Stanlake has also earned a recall after last playing an ODI and a T20I in 2019. But both he and Matt Short, who lost his CA contract recently and was dropped from the T20 World Cup squad on the eve of the tournament, have only been included for the Pakistan series.
Peake does not turn 20 until September, meaning that a debut in Pakistan would make him one of just six teenagers to have played a men's ODI for Australia, behind Ray Bright, Craig McDermott, Hazlewood, Mitch Marsh and Cummins.
He starred in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year but has yet to find his feet at domestic level and has been picked on talent more than performance for Victoria. He has only played six List A games, having debut for Australia A before playing for Victoria, although he has two half-centuries already including one in his most recent innings in December, averaging 36.75 and striking at 112.21. But has struggled at first-class level averaging just 26 from 23 innings with four half-centuries.
Scott has been rewarded for his consistent domestic form across all three formats. He was Australia's Domestic One-Day Player of the Year in 2024-25, helping South Australia to the title. He finished second in the BBL Player of the Year award in 2025-26 after a breakout year for Strikers and was also named Sheffield Shield Player of the Year as part of SA's second successive title.
"It's always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team," chair of selectors George Bailey said. "The blend of experienced players coupled with new or returning players will provide a nice mix for these subcontinent tours.
"Continuing to provide opportunities for players to develop across a broad range of conditions and experiences is important and will continue to be a focus over the next 18 months to two years across the calendar and with future campaigns in mind."
