KKR vs LSG, IPL 2026 - Mukul Choudhary showed great cricket IQ, says Aaron Finch (3:54)

Dale Steyn talks about how Mukul Choudhary turned the tables on KKR (3:54)

Mukul Choudhary not only put on a death-batting masterclass for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he made the record books too. Here's a look at some numbers from Match 15 of IPL 2026.

54 - Runs LSG chased down after the fall of their seventh wicket on Thursday at Eden Gardens, making it the second-highest tally from that point in the innings in a successful chase in the IPL.

The highest is 61 by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2018 season opener at Wankhede.

52 - Runs Choudhary scored in the death overs (17 to 20) of the chase. He is now one of only two batters to cross 50 in a chase in the death overs of an IPL game - Kieron Pollard did it for MI against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013, when he scored 57 off 17 balls when they needed 62 off 24.

1 - Choudhary's unbroken 54-run partnership with Avesh Khan is the highest for the eighth (or lower) wicket in a successful IPL chase. The previous highest was 52* by Rinku Singh and Umesh Yadav, three years ago for KKR against Gujarat Titans.

96.3 - Percentage of runs Choudhary scored in his partnership with Avesh - 52 of 54, off just 21 balls. Avesh faced only three balls and took a single at the start of the 20th over, while another run was a bye on the last ball to complete the win.

It is the highest contribution made by a player in a 50-plus stand in the IPL. The previous highest was 94.64 by Romario Shepherd during his 56-run partnership with Tim David last year for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against CSK. Shepherd scored 53 of those, while David got to face only one ball across the 2.2 overs they batted together.

KKR vs LSg, IPL 2026 - Finch, Steyn break down Mukul Choudhary's technique

Long levers, strong core and wrists are some of the things that make him special

7 - Sixes Choudhary struck during his unbeaten 27-ball 54, the joint-third-highest by any batter while batting at No. 7 (or lower) in an IPL innings. His seven sixes are also the joint-highest while batting at No. 7 (or lower) in a successful IPL chase, alongside the mark of Dwayne Bravo for CSK against MI in 2018.

8 - Instances of KKR losing an IPL match on the last ball while defending a total, the most such defeats for any team. MI are second with seven.

Thursday was the second time LSG completed a chase on the last ball of an IPL game, the first being against RCB in 2023.

5-2 - LSG's win-loss record against KKR in the IPL, including a 3-1 record at KKR's home ground, Eden Gardens. Both KKR wins over LSG came in the 2024 season, when they won the title.
