News: 4 days agoKamara and Travis Etienne are listed as co-RB1s on the Saints' first unofficial depth chart of training camp, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Spin: This comes as a bit of a surprise considering Etienne signed a big money deal (four years, $52 million) to join the Saints in the offseason, while Kamara agreed to a reworked contract (one year, $6 million) in mid-July to remain with the only team he's over known. However, Kamara has been taking on more of the passing-down reps during camp, with Etienne handling early downs, and how the running backs are listed on the depth chart suggests both will have regular roles in the offense. That said, the initial depth chart might simply be a sign of respect for a franchise icon as Kamara enters what could be his final season in New Orleans.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Kamara is entering his age-31 season with major uncertainty. It's possible that he'll retire, but even if he plays, he's unlikely to be a fantasy option. Over the past seven seasons, only two backs age 31 or older have posted a top-30 fantasy campaign, and both required 16-plus touchdowns. (Kamara hasn't cleared nine TDs since 2020 and scored once in 2025). Injuries limited Kamara to career-low marks across the board last season (including a 10% target share, considerably worse than his previous career low of 18%), and he hasn't played a full season since his rookie year (2017). Kamara may land a change-of-pace role (perhaps even behind Travis Etienne Jr. in New Orleans), but that's the most we should expect. A longtime fantasy star, Kamara is worth no more than a late flier.
