News: 11 hours agoBears head coach Ben Johnson said that Monangai is considered day-to-day after sustaining a right thumb injury in Sunday's 23-12 win over the Jets, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Spin: Monangai was on the bench for the final four minutes of the victory due to the injury, but he handled a hefty workload prior to his departure, finishing the day with 30 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns while tacking on a four-yard reception on his lone target. With imaging on Monangai's thumb revealing nothing overly concerning, Johnson is expecting the second-year back to be fine for next Sunday's matchup with the Packers. Even so, it wouldn't be surprising if Monangai ended up being a non-participant or limited participant when the Bears begin Week 5 prep Wednesday.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Monangai heads into his second NFL season following an impressive rookie campaign in which he quickly forced his way into a committee with D'Andre Swift. The 2025 seventh-round flier played 41% of Chicago's offensive snaps and averaged a healthy 4.6 yards per carry on 169 attempts. Monangai was limited to 7.7 fantasy PPG during the 16 weeks Swift also played, but he showed his insurance value with a 29-touch, 198-yard effort in the one game Swift was sidelined (Week 9). The 24-year-old could see a slight boost in usage this season, but that usage and production will be limited as long as Swift is also healthy.
